HOW TO CALCULATE YOUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

Oceans For All foundation has set the price of its BLUEPASS at 300 baht per ton of C02. This rate is based on the lowest carbon offset price applied today worldwide.

ELECTRICITY

According to the official data in 2018 from the Thai Ministry of Energy (www.eppo.go.th) 1 kwh   consumed means 0.515 Kg of CO2 sent into the atmosphere.

Example: In Phuket a family  with an electricity bill of around 3000 THB per month (approx. 800Kw). means a carbon footprint of  4.9 tons of CO2 per year.  Therefore, the corresponding price of their BLUEPASS  is 1 484 THB / year.

In addition to the carbon footprint generated by your electricity consumption, you can complete this calculation by adding the C02 emission generated by your vehicle, boat and flight activities.

VEHICLE

The CO2  emissions by your vehicle in Thailand depend on many factors such as your vehicle type, your speed, your engine size and the type of fuel you use.

To simplify we have taken the average data. (Source: the Environmental Research Institute, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok)

  • Bus (8 500cc.) average CO2 emission is 1 200 gr / Km
  • Pick up & Van (2 500 cc.) average CO2 emission is 270 gr / Km
  • Passenger car (2 000cc.) average CO2 emission is 170 gr / Km
  • Motorcycle (125 cc.) average CO2 emission is 44 gr / Km

BOATS

Your boat’s carbon footprint is the emission of CO2 from burning the fuel in your engine(s). On average at cruise speed, inboard diesel engines generate 2.55 KG of CO2 for 1 litter burned. Speedboats with outboards petrol engine generate 2.35 Kg of CO2 for 1 litter burned. (source: Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)) .

AIRPLANES

As an individual passenger, the carbon foot print average calculation when you travel by plane is 110gr of CO2 each mile. (source blueskymodel.org)
