75 Seagrass planted and 140+ seeds collected at Paradise Kho Yao Nursery as part of Team Sea Garden efforts

Sep 29, 2022

OFA just had a blast at Paradise Koh Yao พาราไดซ์ เกาะยาว where we have our sea grass nursery project Team Sea Garden.

A huge thank you to our partner Paradise KohYao and TreeHouse Villas ทรีเฮาส์ วิลล่าส์ เกาะยาวน้อย พังงา for its support and dedication to ocean conservation and for its amazing GM Marc Landgraf and his team.

We were able to plant 75 beautiful seagrasses and collect more than 140 seeds to grow them at Paradise Kho Yao Nursery.

Seagrass can capture carbon from the atmosphere up to 35 times faster than tropical rainforests and 10% of the ocean’s total carbon. The world’s seagrass meadows can capture 83 million metric tonnes of carbon annually.

The average rate at which the world is losing seagrass is 1.5% per year, meaning we are losing 1 football field of seagrass every 30 minutes 😔

🔖 Seagrasses are vital to our planet’s health:

* Provide food and habitat for marine organisms

* Play an essential role in the nutrient cycle

* Maintain clean water quality

* The stems and leaves slow down currents, stabilising the ocean floors and preventing erosion

* Sequester carbon

Some fish spend their entire life cycle in seagrass meadows.

When marine protected areas are fully protected, biodiversity increases by an average of 20%.
