Last month, two juvenile bamboo sharks raised in our shark nursery were released into the ocean\u2014marking another small but meaningful step toward restoring balance to our local reefs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These young sharks were carefully bred and raised as part of Project Shark Nursery<\/em>, an initiative aimed at repopulating bamboo sharks around Phuket\u2019s coastal reefs. Their numbers have been declining for years due to overfishing, habitat loss, and a lack of legal protection. As a result, reef ecosystems have become increasingly vulnerable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bamboo sharks might be small, but their role in the food chain is critical. They help regulate populations of small fish and shrimp, which, if left unchecked, can overfeed on coral and contribute to reef collapse. Reintroducing healthy sharks back into the wild helps restore this balance, giving reefs a better chance to survive and thrive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Our work doesn\u2019t stop here. With every successful release, we learn more about how to protect marine biodiversity\u2014and how to involve the community in ocean conservation.
